One NWO-funded PhD position is available in the laboratory of Biomolecular X-ray Crystallography led by Dr Albert Guskov in the Groningen Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnology Institute of the University of Groningen, The Netherlands.
Revealing mechanisms of solute transport across biological membrane is challenging, but essential to fully understand the functioning of a cell and mechanisms of diseases associated with the malfunctions of membrane-embedded transport proteins. We are looking for a talented and motivated candidate who is willing to engage in the following PhD project:
METAL TRANSPORT
The general aim of this project is to perform structural characterization of several transporters involved in the transport of (heavy) metals. This will include biochemical / biophysical characterization and structural (crystallography and Cryo-EM) investigations.
Candidates should hold a master’s degree (or equivalent) in Biology, Biochemistry or Chemistry.
Wet-lab experience (molecular biology and biochemistry) is highly desirable and fluency in English is a must.
Contract length: 48 months.
In accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (cao NU), the University of Groningen offers a salary of € 2,266 gross per month in the first year, up to a maximum of € 2,897 gross per month in the fourth and final year, based on a full-time position (1.0 FTE), excluding a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual income and a 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance. The positions are limited to a period of 4 years.
