The Junior Scientific Masterclass is looking for a research student to assist in performing an intervention and evaluation during research supervision.

Introduction
The Junior Scientific Masterclass (JSM) – was set up in 1999 for the purpose of providing medical students who were interested in doing scientific research extra opportunities in addition to the regular degree programme. The ideal is to ensure that in the future more medical doctors will do clinical research as well as taking care of their patients. Therefore, the JSM aims to be a hothouse for future physician-scientists and to give them as good a start as possible. This is why JSM has an extensive programme for all students who are interested in scientific research, including those who are not yet sure, but would like to try. For those who would like to do a research project, there are the 'JSM Pilot Projects’, which enable students to work with a research group within the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG).

The current project focuses on the JSM Pilot projects. In these projects, students individually perform a research project within a research group of the UMCG on top of their regular study activities under supervision of one supervisor. These projects aim to teach students practical and technical research expertise and let them experience the day-to-day reality of doing research. Students who desire to participate in a JSM Pilot project go through a selection procedure, in which the quality of the scientific approach and the work plan is evaluated.

Main questions
Despite the fact that the JSM Pilot project selection procedure includes the planning of projects, still not all projects are finished within the maximum duration (12 months) of the project and the dropout is relatively high. Evaluations with students and supervisors suggest that student-supervisor relationships and mutual expectations about content and processes play a role in how projects are performed and that these may affect dropout. A better student-supervisor professional relationship can, therefore, help to avoid problems and possible dropout. The aim of this study is to implement and evaluate a novel intervention during individual extracurricular research projects of bachelor students (medicine) in which supervisors and students are asked to formulate goals and expectations on the three key domains that are important for the quality of education.

The objected outcomes of this project are a correctly performed study in order to obtain outcomes as valid as possible and a report including policy advice for the Junior Scientific Masterclass.
The student should, therefore, conscientiously take care of the logistics and execution of the intervention. In addition, the student should administer and analyze the outcomes of evaluation questionnaires, perform interviews with students and teachers and transcribe the interviews verbatim.
The student is allowed to build a master thesis around this job, which in addition requires in-depth literature review and writing the thesis.

- Uitstekend Engels in woord en geschrift (sollicitatie moet in het Engels).
- Voldoende kennis van statistiek.

- Ervaring met het afnemen van interviews is een pré.
